Primary Target
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Detailed Dialog
Marvel angry about Ant-Man dialogue leak, demands names of Reddit and Google users
- "Before the release of Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania some of the movie's dialogue was posted in a Google Doc and linked to from a post on Reddit.
- This falls under copyright violation, so, under the rules of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Disney issued a takedown notice and the doc was deleted by Google and the link was deleted on Reddit the same day it was posted.
- But Disney didn't stop there.
- Marvel has requested the District Court for the Northern District of California to issue a subpoena to Reddit and Google for the identities of users involved in posting or editing the content, as well as for the identities of the users of the account MSSmods which is shared by moderators of the Marvel subreddit. "

Reddit should have to identify users who discussed piracy, film studios tell court
- Reddit is also fighting a separate court battle against studios who want the identity of users who posted comments in a piracy thread.
- A user with the screen name "Vision" kicked it off by linking to the Google Docs file. The initial post said the leak was based on a subtitle file in another language that was translated into English.
- "As we have discovered that the info provided to us is receiving copyright notices, any future sharing of the material will result in a ban for rule 3," a moderator wrote in a stickied comment.
- "The purpose for which the DMCA Subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer (or infringers) and such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting MVL's rights under title 17 U.S.C. §§ 100, et seq," said a sworn declaration filed by Marvel Studios VP of Global Security and Content Protection Matthew Slatoff.
- Marvel is asking for users' names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and IP addresses. "between January 15, 2023 and February 15, 2023"
-  "Reddit is committed to protecting our users' privacy. We have rigorous processes in place to assess legal requests and objects when appropriate," a Reddit spokesperson told Ars.
- Marvel's subpoena to Google seeks real names, usernames, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and IP addresses—for the user or users who posted or edited the document plus a "report setting forth any and all revisions made" to the document between December 1, 2022, and February 15, 2023, "including any Identifying Information for any user who edited and/or made revisions to any such content, including any IP address(es) associated with any such revisions."

The DMCA Subpoena Process: An Underutilized Tool for Identifying Anonymous Infringers
- It seems like Disney is entirely within their power to use the DMCA to identify anonymous infringers from providers. I feel conflicted because honestly I would hope Disney is ONLY using this to investigate the leak and stop the leak, but there's a lot of sniffing around for identities that aren't even proven to be involved in the infringement. Is it that Disney CAN'T be more specific about who they're looking for or WON'T?

Why Apple TV Might Get MLB w/o Blackouts
What Led to Diamond Sports Bankruptcy and What to Expect Next
Diamond Sports Removes Sinclair as Operator of Regional Sports Network
Diamond Sports Group, Owner Of Bally Networks Once Run By Fox, Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
- Tuesday, the company that runs the Bally Sports Net Regional Sports TV channels filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Here's why that might end blackouts of local sports streaming.
- Sinclair bought them from Fox but grouped them under a subsidiary called Diamond Sports Group.
- And it looks like moves have been made to shield Sinclair from Diamond Sports Net's debt and get the local broadcast rights back in the hands of sports leagues. Two people are key to understanding this, and they both used to work in RSNs.
-David Preschlack was once president of Comcast's Regional Sports Networkss. He has become the CEO of Diamond Sports Group which has now declared chapter 11 bankruptcy and separated itself from management by Sinclair.
- Meanwhile, one of his colleagues, former Fox Sports Net exec Billy Chambers was hired by MLB in February to run local broadcasts. MLB doesn't have any local broadcasts. Yet.
- But in February, Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said that MLB would be willing to step in if Bally had trouble, to "make games available not only within the traditional cable bundle but on the digital side, as well."
- So. If Diamond Sports Group were to sell itself or part of itself to MLB, that would solve some of its debt problems and give MLB leverage to negotiate the remaining rights which are held by a few channels owned by Comcast and Warner Brothers Discovery.
- That would let MLB do what Major League Soccer has done and stream local games in local markets without blackouts.         Which, you know, could lead to MLB's streaming package being attractive to Apple. Or ESPN.

The trailer for ‘BlackBerry’ just dropped, and you have to watch it
Glenn Howerton
- There have been movies about Apple. There have been movies about Microsoft. There have been movies about Facebook. It's about time the BlackBerry got one. And now it has.
- The movie "BlackBerry" premiered at SXSW. It's based on the 2015 book “Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry.” It tells the story of how Mike Lazaridis and Douglas Fregin founded BlackBerry in 1984 and hired Jim Balsillie to be their CEO. Dispatches from the front
Heya killers,

So I really disliked season 1 of Picard, and heard 2 was just as bad if not worse, so I never went back. Now I'm hearing y'all hint that 3 is legit good. Should I slog through 2 to fully enjoy 3? I'm a trucker, so internet is hard to come by, and my watch time is super precious. I grew up on TNG and while I'm not a full on Trekkie I have a lot of love for Trek, and good TNG is some of the best Trek IMO.

Love the show!

- James

Hey Group,

I need your help.  A colleague of mine is looking for an app to watch Indian TV (like Brit Box for UK shows) . Do you know of any that you could recommend? Thanks! Y'all Rock!
