Front Lines
MLB hires Billy Chambers as EVP/Local Media
Diamond Sports Removes Sinclair as Operator of Regional Sports Networks
- The Sports Business Journal says Major League Baseball has hired regional sports network exec Billy Chambers in order to figure out how to end local market blackouts and not lose local market broadcaster's money. Chambers worked at Fox Sports Net which had the largest number of local broadcasters for sports until Fox sold that unit to Disney which sold it on to Sinclair which operates it under the Bally name as part of its Diamond Sports Group subsidiary. On Feb. 1 Chambers will take over as EVP/Local Media for MLB. Sports Business Journal speculates MLB will try to take back rights from Diamond Sports, and then get rights from Comcast and Warner shortly after. That would let MLB control the broadcasts and where they get distributed, which would mean they could decide to not do blackouts.

Dispatches from the front
What’s a show you’d want to watch but haven’t had a chance to watch? I think I’d watch The Sopranos as I’ve seen many episodes but not all. But not in any rush…

What’s a show you’ve seen before but want to watch again? For me, that would be The Wire.

And a divergent opinion, what is a show or movie broadly liked that you don't?  For me it is Always Sunny and any animated show and I HATE The Big Lebowski.  Can't stand them.

There are three for you.
