Primary Target
James Gunn Writing New ‘Superman’ Film; Henry Cavill Will Not Return, but Eyed to Play Different DC Character
Henry Cavill Will Not Return to ‘The Witcher’ Despite Superman Exit and Fan Demand
James Gunn Responds To “Disrespectful Outcry” From Fans Over DC Changes
- DC studio co-chiefs Peter Safran and James Gunn let us know last week that they are putting together an entirely new take on Superman. It will not be an origin story but will be a younger Superman just getting started as a reporter, so Henry Cavill will not play him, though Gunn said they talked with Cavill about possibilities for working together in the future and Variety's sources say they want to find a new DC role for Cavill. Their full DC plan will be announced in January.
- As to Cavill, it sounds like this will not send him back to play The Witcher for Netflix. Instead he's executive producing and starring in Warhammer 40,000 film and TV shows for Amazon.
- And then today Gunn said "One of the things Peter & I were aware of when we took the job as heads of DC Studios was a certain minority of people online that could be, well, uproarious & unkind, to say the least.
- Our choices for the DCU are based upon what we believe is best for the story & best for the DC characters who have been around for nearly 85 years. Perhaps these choices are great, perhaps not, but they are made with sincere hearts & integrity & always with the story in mind.

Patty Jenkins Breaks Silence on ‘Wonder Woman’: ‘I Never Walked Away’
- We heard that DC had shelved Wonder Woman 3 but then there was a rumor that PattyJenkins had walked away from the project so Patty Jenkins wrote on Twitter “I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.” DC Studios co-chief James Gunn wrote in reply "“I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.” Jenkins says she is now active in development for the Star Wars Rogue Squadron movie.

How to Watch
Apple reportedly backs out of NFL Sunday Ticket negotiations
- Puck.news and The Athletics's sources say Apple has abandoned talks on a deal to get NFL Sunday Ticket. The Athletic says Apple wanted international rights and in-amrket game streams. Sportico previously reported that the NFL opposed Apple's idea of including Sunday Ticket with Apple TV+ at no additional cost. Whatever the reason, the word on the street is that Amazon and Google (for YouTube) are the top contenders to get the NFL package next year.

Amazon will publish the next Tomb Raider game
New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Owner Embracer Gives First Hint of What’s to Come During Q2 Overview
- Big news today that Amazon games will publish the next Tomb Raider title. The game is being developed by Crystal Dynamics using the Unreal Engine 5. It will continue Laura Croft's story, not reboot it, when it comes out in a few years. That is all very interesting but won't impact your daily gaming life for awhile. But here's another interesting aspect of this announcement. Crystal Dynamics was recently bought by Embracer Group. That's interesting because in October, Embracer Group bought Middle Earth Enterprises, formerly Tolkien Enterprises. Middle Earth Enterprises, and therefore Embracer Group, owns the worldwide exclusive rights to elements of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, including names of characters, names of places, objects and events, and short phrases and sayings from the books. Licenses are complex. See Sony's hold on Marvel's Spider-man. So it's kind of hard to tell what's available and what's not. But most interesting out of all this, is that Amazon is making a very expensive Lord of the Rings TV series. And is now working closely with the company that owns other rights it didn't get when making that TV show. So let's do something we don't do a lot of on this show. Wildly speculate!

Dispatches from the Front
On CordKillers ep. 435, Allison Sheridan talked about using the channels service to make a local DVR on a Synology NAS that acted like her old Tivo boxes. I would like to point out that, at least with Xfinity internet here in Indiana, all the shows recorded on a home DVR from YouTubeTV would count against my 1.2TB data cap. Unlike using a Tivo to record a cable channel, all shows recorded through channels from YouTubeTV would have to be streamed and would count against any data cap in whatever market you are in and, if you go over the cap, you could be charged extra. With my Xfinity service, it is $10 for every 50GB of data over the 1.2TB cap upto $30 per month I go over.

I use the DVR in the cloud the YouTubeTV provides. I get unlimited space and it doesn't count against my cap until I actually watch the show.

Thanks for all you guys do,

- Josh

Hello friends,

I was stoked to hear Allison mentions Channels on the most recent Cordkillers.  I discovered Channels years ago as a byproduct of my staunch insistence that my home theater setup uses only 1 remote (and preferably 1 input on the TV).  Basic Channels is free (I think... I originally had to make a 1-time purchase of the app) and It'll even let you do limited time shifting.  You can pause live TV and it'll record up to 2 hours onto the AppleTV internal drive.  Once the server software is installed and you pay for DVR service, you get all the OTA channels in a grid with season pass options.  If you have TV Anywhere, those channels will also be listed in the grid with the same pass options.  The commercial detection feature is also pretty good on broadcast, but absolutely spot on with TV Anywhere.

As someone who played around with Plex and found it too complex, Channels is awesome.  It automatically detects the HD HomeRun.  My server is a 2009 Mac Mini, with upgraded RAM and an SSD, that I had sitting in a closet.  Runs like a champ on that very old hardware.  The only downside is Channels can't pull exclusives from Prime Video, Hulu, etc.  It also doesn't integrate with Apple TVs ""Up Next"" row.  Even with those shortcomings, if you're looking for something that can pull your antenna into your streaming box, Channels is a great choice.  It also allows for remote streaming of DVR'd shows and live TV via web interface or app.

Thanks again for the great show,

- Mike

You can teach this old dog a new trick. I had not heard of the Channels app until Allison Sheridan clued me in. I dropped everything and loaded it onto my computer and downloaded apps onto all my devices and it is working great. About the only thing I ever record are a couple of favorite newscasts. I had used Sling TV for a while but the price kept rising. Then Peacock added MSNBC so I subscribed to that for $10 a month...but you need to wait till the next day to view the news so that sucks. Channels gives me the full TIVO experience at a price I am more than happy to pay.

Thank you Tom, Brian, Bryce and Allison!
