Netflix released a horror movie written by a bot and it's spectacular
The First Horror Movie Written Entirely By Bots
OpenAI’s GPT-3 Now Writing Screenplay For A Short Film With A Plot Twist
- Mr. Puzzles wants you to be less alive is a horror movie short written entirely by bots and released by Netflix. Or is it....
- The bot was trained by Keaton Patti on more than 400,000 hours of horror movies.
- The movie is certainly executed tongue in cheek. Computer animation with what sounds like text to speech for the actor lines though the stage directions are ready by something that sounds like Patton Oswald.
- A few gems from the script:
- "Do Not kill me please. I have several families. I am a coworker."
- "I don't know houses. I am a virgin. My Dad will pay you to not kill me. My Mom might not."
- Jennifer is sprayed with red coworker juice.
- Except this is a thing Patti does and sometimes without bots. So we could spend a lot of time trying to figure out if this was made by bots for real or not. Are there even 400,000 hours of horror movies? Or did it watch repeats? Honestly I don't know if it matters for two reasons
- 1.) It's hilarious and either it's a hilarious bot created thing ior its an even more impressive human-created hilarity that sounds like bots
- 2.) and even more important to my way of thinking -- Tech like GPT-3 can already do this much better. Solicotrs, an Ai short film written by GPT-3, came out in 2020. Another one called Date Night was posted in April.
- So we can get sidelined trying to decide if Netflix is lying when it writes "We worked with Keaton Patti to make a bot watch over 400,000 hours of horror movies a" OR we can talk about what it will be like when we get the first screenplay actually written by machine learning that is good and we like!

Peacock Is “Way Ahead Of Where We Expected To Be”, NBCUniversal Chief Jeff Shell Says – But No New User Stats Released
Comcast Hints at Holding on to Hulu; Peacock Numbers Moving in ‘Right Direction’

- NBC disaster drama La Brea was the most-viewed original on Peacock during the quarter.
- Unlike the past 5 quarters Comcast did not release any numbers around peacock in its latest earnings report.
- Last July they had 20 million monthly active users and projected 30-35 by 2024.
- But Shell did use lots of very cool sounding words some of which involved words you also use when using numbers. “Everything on Peacock is heading in the right direction. There’s really nothing, from a trajectory perspective, that’s any different than it was last quarter or the quarter before. All metrics are pointed up. Our usage continues to be great, our mix of users continues to be great. We added a few million more subs, more monthly active users.”
- He added -- helpfully?-- “We’ve been a business for just over a year and we’re already more than a third of what Hulu is now, which is a service that’s more than a decade in the making.” Hulu reported 42.8 million in July when Peacock was already more than a third....
- Speaking of Hulu, Comcast still owns 33% as a now silent partner with Disney. They're expected to sell that chunk as early as January 2024 under their existing deal. Some rumors existed that NBC would want to jump out early but Comcast CEO Mike Kavanaugh said “I like the deal we have…It’ll be fine if we stay until the end because I expect the value to keep increasing.”

Dispatches from the Front
So, wait, Brian, what are you saying? "It's your responsibility" to not be spoiled. So people just need to quit Twitter altogether? Because that's the only way I can see your opinion here working. And hey, I think the world probably would be a better place if everyone quit Twitter, but that doesn't seem like a realistic take in this situation.

The movie wasn't even out. No one could have reasonably expected this news. Your analogies to premier night for game of thrones episodes completely miss the mark. And no, Bryce, just because someone else might have spoiled this doesn't let this guy off the hook.

This was a spoiler, plain and simple. The reporter doesn't need to be crucified for this, but going forward I think the media should learn from this and not do it.

-Chris B

P. S. I don't even get angry about spoilers! Man what a weird case to put us all on opposite sides of an issue.

The Tweet was a spoiler; it could have simply included a spoiler warning and a link for those interested.

-Chris

Brian, Tom, Bryce and possible guest,
While Marvel did not invent the post credit scene, the frequent use of them is a relatively new concept. Your conversation on last week's episode illustrated that we are still figuring out the conventions around them.

For instance Casablanca does not have a post credit scene where we see Ingrid Bergman's plane land and she is greeted by a resurrected Orson Welles from Citizen Kane.

There are some post credit scenes that are just silly such as the Avengers eating at a Shawarma restaurant after saving the world.

However, other post credit scenes continue the story or are even from a future movie such as the post credit scene from Ant-Man, which is a scene from Captain America: Civil War. This type of post credit scene may contain spoilers.

The casting itself in a post credit scene could be a spoiler. For instance if we knew that Samuel L. Jackson was cast in the post credit scene of Ironman. People may have speculated that he had been casted as Nick Fury and that this movie was beginning to set up a future Avengers movie. For that reason I don't believe Samuel L. Jackson's casting in Ironman had been announced by the studio.

So let's use the Matt Donnelly incident as a precedent. If the studio doesn't announce the casting of someone in a post credit scene, then a reporter probably shouldn't report or even tweet it.

- Bill

Hello, long-time supporter, first-time writer.
If the person from Variety had tweeted "...and Josh Brolin was great reprising his role of Thanos", would that not be a spoiler? If the actor and character were not revealed in the normal casting news (production, agent announcements, etc...) then obviously Disney meant to keep it a secret from the general audience. Just because it was a character not well known to most people doesn't make it fair game.

Anyway, please don't refer to me as your boss. I don't want to be a boss. Maybe your backer?

- Hokey

Hey guys,

I know my opinion should only matter a little bit but I'm finding the Miami Vice rewatch enjoyable especially since I'm not watching along. I don't care for the show, never did, but your discussion was fantastic and brought me back to me ignoring that as a 13 year old. This might be the first "Spoilerin' Time" I've listened to that I haven't watched so keep it up!

And thanks for the "After Talk" talk about Squid Games because I had no idea what it was about and no desire. Those brief words made me realize I was on the right path not watching it.

Finally, I was surprised you brought up the Rust situation and really liked the candid discussion, especially Brian. I heard about the shirt ... and hearing Brian say he wished we could get along for such a tragedy was refreshing. Glad I'm not on social media to hear about that vitriol.

Keep it all up.

Your boss,
- Norm

P.S. That F1 Race and new soccer team in Austin sound like a nightmare! Probably lots of fun but a traffic nightmare nonetheless. Glad I got out of Austin 6 years ago when I did.
