How to Watch
Tom, Brian, Bryce and Jennie share their tips on how to get the content you want
MoviesAnywhere is a good tool and storefront for getting films you can access on lots of devices.
JustWatch is a great tool for finding where to watch shows on what services across the globe.
Trakt for tracking. Lots of apps to access the API. I like the Watcht app.
AppleTV is my pick for streaming device. I like the remote and scrolling through items on screen with a touchpad feels super easy. Also a big fan of the iPad Mini and folding cover.
AirPods are great for wireless audio if you're traveling and an iOS fan (for Siri). Any bluetooth really feels like magic the first time you try it.
Watching on a PC? The Netflix app supports 1080p video streams (Hulu's app doesn't still).
Consider buying shows instead of subscribing to streaming services. Buying Better Call Saul was cheaper than dealing with Sling for 3 months.
FandangoNow for storefront (but that's because my wife works there). I generally will choose iTunes if I do have a choice because I'm often in an Apple TV
What to Watch

Netflix renewed Queer Eye for a 6th season of the new version to be set in Austin, Texas. Season 5 which takes place in Philadelphia is scheduled to arrive this summer.

Google can reportedly revoke Android licenses if TV makers also partner with Amazon
- Protocol reports that, according to multiple sources, the license for Google's Android TV OS includes a provision that prevents companies from using forked versions of Android, like Amazon's Fire TV OS, on other devices. This is part of Android Compatibility Commitment, and breaking the agreement could result in an OEM losing access to the Play Store and Google's apps for all of its devices, including phones, smart TVs, and set top boxes. The Android Compatibility Commitment allows for device makers to build their own Android versions, but must follow Google's compatibility requirements. The Committment applies to all devices made by an OEM, so Android phone makers could not use Fire TV OS on other products. Google previously announced it had a deal with six out of 10 smart TV manufacturers and 140 cable TV operators to use Android TV.
Vudu's 'Lists' feature helps you organize your video collection
- Vudu hasn't been sold yet, and it's added a new feature called Lists so you can organize your purchases by more than alphabetical order. You can add a movie to multiple lists and reorder the lists as well. You can include movies whether you own them or not. If you don't own a movie in your list and they're available through Vudu's free service, they'll play with ads.
CBS Schedules Network Programming To Air In Place Of NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament
- CBS had to fill a big hole in its schedule when the NCAA canceled its March basketball tournaments. Daytime schedules will return to normal with game shows, talk shows and soap operas. Prime time schedules will air original episodes of Hawaii- Five-O (including the series finale on April 3), Macgyver and Blue Bloods, along with reruns of the same shows plus Young Sheldon, Mom, The Neighborhood and others.
French Pay TV outfit Canal Plus announced it will be free for all cable TV users during the country's lockdown. And paying subscribers will get access to all subs channels including Cinema, Series, Youth and Documentaries.
NBC News Launches Content Studio to Pair Advertisers With Streaming Video
- NBC is also launching NBC News Custom Productions, an editorial unit charged with finding ways to pair advertisers with content. CNN and Fox already have similar operations. The idea would not be to let advertisers control the content but have the editorial unit develop content and get advertisers to fund it. An example is "Mavericks", a series of interviews with influencers and entertainers that was sponsored by General Motors Cadillac.

Dispatches from the Front
I’m currently sitting in the white horse pub in London, so I’m afraid I’m all out of American change...
Boys, I think your overthinking it. I don’t disagree that the current version is suffering from scope creep. I’d do the following to streamline it:
1) 3-4 shows max (one library plus whatever first runs you choose)
2) YouTube is one long show
3) audio is carved up into unique segments and put out, BUT don’t bother with a top and tail for each - at most a one sentence throw to the next segment. Put them all on one feed - not separate feeds. Almost all users have a pod cast app with a queuing system and can pull the clips they want and pitch the rest.
4) when appropriate, movie draft is also its own segment.
That’s all I’d do. Since you asked and I didn’t respond - how do I consume it? By and large, if I’m caught up on a show, then I listen to your segment. If it’s a show I have no interest in, I skip it, if it’s a show I’m marginally interested in, I listen even though I haven’t watched to gauge whether I actually want to see the show. I always listen to the draft. There were times this winter that I listened just to the draft, then archived the rest of the show. This week as an example, I’m not watching any of the shows so I skipped the whole thing and just listened to the main and after talk.
That’s all! Tah,
- Andy
